Terms of use

Last updated: 14 October 2026. Parts marked [TO VALIDATE] await review.

SYNESIA is a working library where members add public web pages to document and analyse disinformation narratives. By creating an account or adding a page, you accept these terms. [TO VALIDATE: legal review.]

What the library accepts

Publicly accessible pages: press articles, blog posts, statements, public social media posts. Every addition serves analysis: it is annotated (a label about the content, targeted countries, a note) and added to the shared library. Cards are personal contributions of their authors, reviewed after publication.

What is forbidden

  • Private conversations and messaging apps (WhatsApp, Messenger, Discord, Telegram's web app, webmails): the extension and the server refuse them.
  • Intimate content, or content about a private person's life.
  • Images of children, identifiable or not.
  • Private individuals' data (addresses, phone numbers, identifiers) and any content enabling harassment.
  • Geolocatable military information (movements, positions of forces), particularly in Ukraine.

Three access levels

The full text, formatted copy, links and screenshot of an added page are visible only to the analyst team (administrators and consortium partners) and to the author of the addition. Other members see a card: title, site, date, link, label, targeted countries, analyst's note and a short excerpt. Social media posts show neither the account nor the author's name, except for institutional or public figure accounts.

Automatic quarantine

Some pages are quarantined on addition: media under European Union sanctions (the card then shows neither excerpt nor clickable link), pages whose publisher reserves text and data mining, and subscriber-only articles (no semantic analysis). Their full copies remain visible to the analyst team only.

Reporting and removal

Anyone can request the removal of a content: the “Report” button on each card, or the public form available without an account. The team reviews every request, removes content that breaches these terms, motivates its decision and notifies the contributor when their page is removed.
